Jamal Adams wants New York to go after Chiefs’ Dee Ford

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has said that he is going to be involved in the free agent recruiting process this offseason, and one target he has already zeroed in on is Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Dee Ford.

“Yeah I like #55 Dee Ford off that end for us! Let’s pay him what he wants!” Adams wrote in a since-deleted tweet, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

The good news for the Jets is that they have ample cap room to sign a big-name free agent like Ford. The bad news is that the Chiefs can franchise tag Ford to keep him off the market entirely.

It’s easy to see why Adams has an interest in adding Ford.

This season, Ford racked up 55 tackles, 13 sacks, and seven forced fumbles en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance. For a Jets team that was middle of the pack with just 39 sacks this year, Ford would be a fine addition.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Auburn University, was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round (23rd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He had a very limited role during his rookie campaign, finishing with just 16 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Ford didn’t really break out until his third season, when he registered 38 tackles, 10 sacks, and a forced fumble.

The Odenville, Al. native then played in just six games last season due to a back injury.

The Jets went 4-12 this year and have not made the playoffs since 2010.
