Jets Interview Kris Richard for Head Coaching Position

The New York Jets have interviewed Cowboys defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Kris Richard for the club’s head coaching vacancy.

Richard helped Dallas finish sixth in scoring defense (20.2 Pts/G) and seventh overall (329.2 Yds/G) this season.

Prior to his lone year with Dallas, Richard served as the Seahawks defensive coordinator from 2015-17. In that span, his unit ranked No. 2, No. 5 and No. 11 in the NFL, respectively. Richard also served as the Seattle’s assistant defensive backs coach (2010), cornerbacks coach (2011) and defensive backs coach (2012-14).

A third-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2002 draft, the former USC Trojan cornerback spent three years in Seattle before stints with the Dolphins (2005), 49ers (2005-06) and Raiders (2007). He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at USC under Pete Carroll and followed the latter to the ‘Hawks in 2010.

Earlier this week, the Jets announced they had completed interviews with Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase and former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.
