Kris Richard to be interviewed by Jets, Dolphins on Sunday

With Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy getting his head coaching interview with the Jets on Wednesday, next up will be Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Richard will have an interview with the Jets and Dolphins on Sunday following the Cowboys’ playoff game against the Seahawks.

Richard is a defensive minded coach with plenty of experience. He has worked his way up through the system, starting as a graduate assistant at USC in 2008. Richard then joined the Seahawks as an assistant defensive backs coach and eventually became the defensive coordinator. The 39-year-old oversaw one of the greatest secondaries of all-time in Seattle, mentoring the likes of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

In Dallas, Richard has continued his work with defensive backs, helping cornerback Bryce Jones take his game to the next level in 2018. He has also assumed playcalling responsibilities on passing downs alongside defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

If Richard were to be hired, he would continue the trend of Jets defensive head coaches. It would be ideal for New York to bring an offensive mind in as its next head man, but if Richard blows away Mike Maccagnan and company in his interview, that could go out the window.
